Holly Woodhead
Holly Woodhead is a 25 year old Eventer Rider born and bred from the Woodhead Family based in Grimsby.
Holly has been riding from a young age and at 15 years old she and her sister Amy were teaching at the Family riding school, Weelsby Park.
At 16, Holly left school to focus on horses and went to work for Angus Smales. After 8 months she moved to work for Tim and Antonia Brown who without whom, she wouldn’t be where she is today. Holly then spent a short period of time with JP Sheffield before moving down to Swindon to work for her boyfriend, Tom McEwen.
After two years with the McEwens, Holly decided to set up on her own with her two horses. Holly is now based with her horses at Brook farm near Swindon, the home of Parkfield Breeding, for whom she now rides multiple horses, and is heavily involved in helping them to produce the young stars of the future. At last count Holly no fewer than 20 horses in work, and number that is constantly growing.
Holly started her Eventing career on her self produced pony BALLYMONEY (Lolly) whom she qualified for the Pony Europeans Championships in 2009 but was unable to compete due to also being selected for the Pony Dressage Europeans on her sisters pony LANGARD FOUR where she finished 8th and best placed British rider.

Holly’s first horse THE FRENCH ONE (Frenchie) gave her a great start to horses, taking her from Pre Novice to Intermediate level winning several JRN classes along the way, and resulting in qualification a couple of times for the Weston Park Championships during their time together.

However, the horse that has truly made Holly’s career is DHI LUPISON (Luke). Holly took the ride on as a 7 year old and has produced him all the way up the levels accumulating in being long listed for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Luke was purchased by Holly’s late grandad, along with her father (Ian) and Heidi Woodhead in 2012. That year, they were long listed for FEI Junior Europeans Championships before an horrific skiing accident resulting in surgery put her out of action for rest of the 2012 Eventing Season.
In 2013 Holly was back riding and more determined then ever. Riding DHI LUPISON she was select to represent Team GB at the FEI Young Rider Europeans for Eventing at Haras de Jardy , FRNACE where they took a Team Silver medal and where Holly placed 6th Individually and the best of the British rider. In 2014 they were again selected for the FEI Young Rider Europeans for Eventing at Vale Sabroso, PORTUGAL where claimed Individual Silver and Team Bronze.
In 2015 Holly won the CCI*** u25 section at Equi-Trek Bramham International riding DHI LUPISON earning her a call-up to the Senior Team GB Squad and ultimately became became the youngest rider since 1989 to be selected onto the Senior GB Team select for the FEI Longines European Eventing Championship at Blair Castle, Scotland where they produced the second best dressage test and went on to finish a respectable 21st Individually. Holly also selected as of the Team GB for the FEI Nations Cup CICO3*** in Aachen, GERMANY.
During 2016 Holly and her partnering in crime DHI LUPISON, recorded several top 5 places, including 3rd place in the CIC*** at Chatsworth International, 4th place in the CIC*** at Burnham Market International and 8th place in the CIC*** at Bramham International, as well being selected to represent Team GB at the FEI Nations Cup at Strzegom, POLAND where the Team won the GOLD medal, with Holly finishing in 16th place Individually, all of which contributed her being long listing for a possible place on the Olympic Team for Rio 2016.
2017 so far has been a busy but successful year, one of the highlights was her selection to represent to Team GB as part of an all women Team for the FEI Nations Cup in Haras du Pin with Parkfield Breedings PARKFIELD QUINTESSENTIAL where the Team won the Silver Medal.
2019 marks the start of new chapter, a new base, and string of horses, and new start as Holly established Holly Woodhead Eventing at the Sunhill Stud, Kemble.
